What does it mean to be vegan?

It means following a diet called veganism that does not contain animal products or animal by-products (dairy, eggs, and even honey) coupled with a belief against animal cruelty and exploitation. Veganism is an actual lifestyle that reflects ethical choices made in daily life and involves a range of industries like cosmetics and fashion. To recap, being vegan means both following a vegan diet AND living a lifestyle that reflects the same values. For example, not buying leather or wool, not using cosmetics containing animal-derived ingredients like keratin or collagen, etc.

What about Yves Rocher products?

100% vegetarian and more than 700 Vegan references within our offer, across all product categories Yves Rocher is a Brand that places plants at the heart of all its products. This is what has made its identity since its inception 60 years ago. All our products are designed from plants: we select from more than 1,100 ingredients of plant and natural origin studied by our scientific experts, those which are best suited to the cosmetic benefits of each product, which respect the integrity of the skin. and have a lower impact on the planet.

Our products can be considered 100% vegetarian and over 600 of our product formulas are Vegan, and contain no ingredients of animal origin.

On the other hand, when there is no satisfactory alternative, we allow ourselves certain natural ingredients from animal production whose harvest does not harm the integrity of the animals (natural secretions such as honey or beeswax) . So what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian cosmetics?

A vegetarian cosmetic product is a product that does not contain any ingredient from the body of an animal (collagen, animal fats, etc.). A vegan cosmetic is a product that does not contain any ingredient derived from the body of an animal or animal production (eggs, milk, honey, beeswax, etc.) and which is free from animal exploitation.

Are there labels certifying vegan cosmetic products?

There are several vegan certification labels like those of the Vegan Society, PETA and One Voice. These labels certify either the Brand in its entirety or the product. The vast majority of labels do not issue certification to companies exporting to China because the Chinese authorities can decide, completely unilaterally, to themselves test cosmetic products regardless of the Brand before or during their marketing in their territory. Cruelty Free certification, on the other hand, attests to the absence of cruelty to animals, for example from animal testing. Remember that animal testing has been banned in Europe for cosmetic products since 2013.

Are there any regulations governing vegan cosmetics?

There are no regulations governing the designation "vegan" and therefore no regulatory definition of what a vegan product should be.

What about animal testing?

We stopped testing on animals in 1989. We do not test on animals and never endorse animal testing in our finished products or in their ingredients. And it’s not a new thing: the brand actually began fighting animal testing very early on. In 1989, Yves Rocher made a pioneering decision in the cosmetics industry to stop testing our finished products on animals and to replace the tests with alternative methods. In 1992, we won the Gold Medal from the SPA (Society for the Protection of Animals in France) for this initiative.

Hair mass density loss isn't the end of the world. Here are our solutions to restore it and keep your scalp healthy.

How does hair loss happen?

First of all, it's important to differentiate between chronic hair loss and reactionary hair loss. The first comes from a reaction to a specific event, like fatigue, stress, pregnancy, taking medication or being on a diet. Women are generally more exposed to this type of hair loss, which can affect the entire scalp. Reactional hair loss is sudden, extreme, and most importantly, temporary. These signs tend to appear around 3 months after the triggering factor.

Then, there is chronic hair loss caused by hormones, which is often hereditary. This mainly happens to men, but women can also fall victim to it as they get older. This type of hair loss can by recognized by a decrease in the length, thickness and volume of the hair over a period of least 6 months.

Which steps should I take to limit hair density loss?

Step 1: Choose the right shampoo. Beautiful hair starts with a healthy scalp. The fortifying shampoo contains Agave fructans, which active microcirculation, in combination with a scalp massage, for a perfectly nourished bulb⁽¹⁾and White Lupin, rich in proteins vital to the balance of hair. Its sulfate-free formula⁽²⁾restores hair mass⁽³⁾for stronger and healthier hair. Apply it to wet hair. Massage into the scalp in a circular motion for 2 minutes. Rinse. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly.

In addition to the routine recommended above, there are other habits you can adopt to stimulate hair growth.

Massaging the scalp when applying shampoo activates microcirculation and allows the products to penetrate more easily into the hair: you should massage gently with your fingertips in circular movements from the nape of the neck right to the top of your head.

Step 3: even out your complexion

After having corrected any color imperfections, next thing to do is conceal the color correctors by applying foundation.

For a completely evened out complexion, use the Flawless Skin Foundation to smooth pores and get the perfect semi-matte finish without emphasizing dry patches on skin. Its high pigmentation means this foundation can last up to 24 hours. But wait, there's more! It's composed of 98% ingredients from natural origin and is enriched with moisturizing Edulis water and fortifying Wild Organic Chamomile.

For medium coverage, apply a small amount of the foundation on your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Apply the Corretor or High Coverage Luminous Concealer directly onto dark circles or any imperfection. Then, pat with your fingertips or use a brush to blend the makeup onto your skin.

Tip: apply your concealer by forming an inverted triangle under your eyes to hide dark circles for an even more luminous result!

Step 5: apply finishing touches

After having applied your foundation, corrector and concealer, all that's left to do is set everything so that your complexion stays flawless from sunup to sundown.

If you want even more coverage, apply the ultra soft and velvety Complexion Powder. If what you want is to set, mattify and blur your complexion, use the Loose Powder with its universal shade.

Apply the powder using a powder puff or powder brush. Remove any excess by lightly tapping against the powder case. Then, apply onto your entire face, particularly on the T-zone: forehead, nose and chin.

Now it's time for the final touch! The Bronzing Powder will warm up your complexion as well as adding texture and light to it, giving you a natural sun-kissed look.

Shea butter is a highly appreciated botanical extract at Yves Rocher: discover all about its virtues and origin.

An exceptionally resistant plant

The shea tree has developed defense mechanisms to resist the long dry seasons. Its seeds, scattered at the beginning of the rainy season to increase their chances of survival, go through a form of germination called cryptoge: their exceptional lipid reserves enable them to develop a root pivot instead of seedlings like most plants. Deeply rooted in the earth, it will provide the young plant with the water it needs. When fully grown, to resist against frequent bush fires, the shea tree sheds some of its leaves during the dry season to minimize possible damage by flames and its thick, cork bark gives it a certain protection.

Origin:

The shea butter we use comes from West Africa. We get our supplies from locally committed suppliers to sustainably develop this sector. The shea tree is considered sacred and only women can pick and work its fruit. This unique, traditional know-how is passed on from generation to generation. During the rainy season the women pick the ripe fruit, blown off trees by the wind, from the forest floor. Back in the village, they remove the pulp from the fruit, boiled its pits, sundried then crushed them to extract its nuts. They carefully washed, dried and stored them. These are important moments in the life of the village.

Our extract

Lipids exist naturally in skin and their role is essential. As a result of age or the effects of certain environmental factors, their production can decrease. With fewer lipids, skin is more sensitive to external aggressions. It becomes dry, rough, dull, sometimes scaly and very uncomfortable.

African women’s beauty secret, shea butter developed from a traditional know-how, is well known for its exceptional nutritive and reparative properties. To help the economic growth of its partner, Yves Rocher has financed a 5000m2 shea butter transformation plant in Bougouni. The women bring the nuts to the transformation plant where they are crushed, roasted and ground up. The resulting mixture is cooked and submerged in boiling water which when filtered is raw shea butter. In Europe, its color and odor are removed using steam, and it then acquires the desired cosmetic qualities.

Shea butter can be found in which products?

To tackle this problem, our Botanical Beauty experts have selected two plants perfect for the ultimate detox: Aphloia and Moringa.

Healthy hair!

PLANT GENIUS - SEDUCTION

Why is the cornflower blue ? To seduce!

Like other plants that need insects to reproduce, the Cornflower relies on its flower to ensure good visibility to pollinators. By visiting it, they will carry its pollen from one plant to another.

Besides its color, the Cornflower has other pleasing assets. For example, its small flowers are arranged in a flower head (which gives the impression of a single large flower) and do not bloom all at exactly the same time. This allows the flower head to remain open for several days... and therefore increase its chances of being spotted by insects.

THE ORIGIN OF OUR PLANT

This little blue flower, so aptly named, is one of the latest ones of the Yves Rocher Brand.

Cornflower has been organically farmed on our La Gacilly lands in France since the early 90s and is now UEBT certified. This culture respects the principle of Agroecology, a practice that combines the fundamentals of Organic Agriculture, in symbiosis with biodiversity and the territory. Before the cornflower seedlings are planted, the soil is prepared in the spring: the surplus from the previous season's crops is crushed and incorporated into the soil to nourish it. The cornflowers will then bloom in July and August.

This very delicate flower should only be sown on the same plot once every four years, according to the principles of crop rotation. Also fragile to harvest, the flower is picked by hand. This is an opportunity for the students who participate during the summer to discover the world of the brand!

Monoi, the star of the summer

Don’t you just love it? We do too, and that’s why Monoi has been everyone’s favorite line for years! Known for its intoxicating scent, it's often associated with the sun and tanning. Sweeping you away to a dreamy beach isn’t its only benefit.

Thanks to nourishing coconut oil, it leaves your skin so much softer and supple, and nothing is stopping you from using it all year long. Great news for Monoi lovers who want to feel like they’re on vacation!

Monoi is also excellent for your hair. It suits all hair types and helps protect it when you go swimming: just apply a bit of oil to your ends and lengths beforehand.

But be careful: Monoi oil doesn’t contain a sunscreen. It can enhance your tan but doesn’t protect against UV rays. So make sure you always wear sunscreen to protect your skin.

Traditional nourishing oil? Moisturizing dry oil? Which one to choose?

Now that you know about the many ways you can use Monoi, it’s time to choose which oil suits you best! Nourishing oil or dry oil? The choice is not that easy to make...

Do you like rather light oils that not only moisturize your skin without leaving a greasy film behind but also enhance your tan? Then the Multi-Purpose Moisturizing Dry Oil is for you. Its spray nozzle helps leave a fine, nourishing film on your skin. You can also easily apply on your hair for soft, shiny strands.

On the other hand, if you prefer richer oils that provide your skin with much more intense moisture, go for the Traditional Nourishing Oil. With its formula composed of 97% Tahitian Monoi, it softens skin and leaves it delicately scented.
