Liquid, felt-tip pens, pencils... it’s not easy to choose! We’re here to go over their finishes and ease of application for your pretty eyes!
Pencils: If you want an intense look but you’re not quite a pro yet, this is the product for you!
Waterproof eye pencil Yves Rocher
The pros: Easy to use, they’re perfect to start out with and try your hand. If you make a mistake, don’t panic! You can smudge it out with a brush for a smoky effect. Or this might just be the look you’re going for: in this case, a pencil will be your best friend.
The cons: Due to their texture, they lack precision and their finish is less neat than a liquid eyeliner.
Ensure you sharpen it regularly to maintain a thin line and a precise application.
Liquid eyeliner: for experts in search of perfection
Liquid Liner Yves Rocher
Liquid eyeliner is the most classic, most well-known, and most used of all the liner types! They always come in a small tube with a fine pointed tip.
The pros: They offer the most precision and provide a perfect line in either a shiny or matte finish, whatever your preference! The liquid formula also ensures long wear and an intense finish.
The cons: Liquid liner requires a certain level of skill as there’s no room for mistakes; if you make one, you have to remove it and start all over. So it is best left to the experts, as the slightest bit of shakiness will cause a slip-up. It’s difficult to control the color intensity, which is usually very dark. Liquid eyeliner also doesn’t allow you to play around with the thickness of the line. As a result, you’re limited to creating a cat eye or a classic stroke along the upper lash line.
Felt-tip eyeliner pen: not quite an expert, but still in search of precision
Felt-tip eyeliner pen Yves Rocher
The pros: Easy to hold, it allows for a precise line and no slip-ups. You also have the ability to customize the intensity of your strokes – whether thick or thin – as well as the shape of your wing, and to create a classic or graphic style. Additionally, felt-tip eyeliner pens are super convenient when you're pressed for time in the morning; they dry almost immediately after application, so there’s no risk of it smudging on your eyelid.
The cons: Since felt-tip eyeliners dry so quickly, you need to be sure of your stroke at the time of application.
Now that you know which option to use to make your eyes pop, there are some rules you need to follow:
1. Clean off your lids so application is not hindered. Pat your lids with a blotting paper (product link) or a tissue to remove any traces of cream or foundation.
2. Get yourself comfortable in a chair, place your elbow on the table so it’s stable, and look at yourself in a small tilting mirror. The best angle is with your eyelids lowered, eyes half closed, and looking down.
