Our 5 commandments of teleworking

Because as it’s been 2 years now that we've all been able to experience the joys of telecommuting, we can say that we've acquired some experience in this area. Here’s what we advise.

Point 1 : preparation is important, even when you stay at home

We’ve already tried working in our pajamas, which is tempting but not very motivating. Getting dressed in the morning is part of a routine that gives you a structure. Staying in track pants can quickly result in you wanting to do nothing.

You don't have to dress exactly as you would for work, but don’t stay in your pajamas. Your mind associates wearing pajamas with resting and this will stop you having the energy you need to be at your most productive.

If you are in the habit of putting on makeup and/or doing your hair before leaving for work then do so. Keeping the same routines really allows you to work better from home.

Our solution : opt for these super-comfortable loungewear and homewear garments.

Point 2 : a good working space is key

A place where you can focus will help you be more productive during your day. In our opinion, this is THE number one rule: transform a room into an office, for more comfort and tranquility.

This brings us to an important point, the decoration of your space. Take advantage of the situation. You can imagine the office you have always dreamed of without ever being able to have it in your company!

Be careful not to neglect comfort. A good chair is essential. If this is not possible, do not hesitate to reinforce the seat of a classic chair with cushions. Finally, never forget that you need to maintain an upright posture.

Another important point is to limit distractions. The phone, social networks, television, the game console, are all diversions that can detract from your productivity and concentration.

Our advice : you don't have such a space ? Move the furniture to create separations. Tall plants, a personalized screen or one to grow plants up can act as a visual barrier.

Point 3 : to better experience teleworking, design the schedule

The risk at home is either not being productive enough or not realizing how long your work is taking. Therefore, it is essential to establish and keep to a daily work schedule.

When telecommuting, get used to keeping to regular start and end of day times with well-defined breaks. Give yourself so time to sit back and do other things. It's up to you to choose how you replace your coffee break amongst colleagues! This could include time with your children, with your loved ones, walks outside to relax and make a break.

Our advice : to get the most from your breaks, write down that you are unavailable in your professional diary, so as not to be disturbed by a meeting or a call, for example.

Point 4 : do not confuse private life and work, even at home

Whether it's a roommate, your children, partner or even parents, we all find it hard to balance private life with work. Do you know what the secret is? Communication!

Those around you need to be aware of when you are available and when you are not. To ensure this, we suggest visualization. For example, by creating a nice sticker with and for your children to hang on the door so that you are not disturbed when you are in a meeting.

Our advice : communication by itself is not enough, so try and schedule your meetings and calls at times when you are less likely to be disturbed.

Point 5 : teleworking does not mean staying at home by yourself

Not being on the company’s premises does not prevent you from making professional contacts and forging relationships. Whether it's by email, video call or social networks, contact your colleagues. This can also be an opportunity to schedule lunches with each other on the days you are on-premises.

Are you feeling cooped up physically and mentally? Good news, you can now vary where you can telework! The only requirements are an internet connection, headphones and a minimum amount of quiet.

Our advice : find a spot in a café, a co-working space or even in a park.

Finally, we couldn’t end this article without talking about the benefits of sport.

Most of us are even more sedentary with this new way of working. However, doing sport allows you to release the stress of the day and to let go!

Our advice : It is possible to do sport indoors or outdoors, with colleagues, friends or even alone, depending on your motivation!
