Bye-bye Resolutions. Hello “Word of the Year”!

Make this your best year yet when you choose your own special word to guide you.

Forget those do-or-die resolutions to make real progress this year!

The beginning of the year is the time to set resolutions and for many of us, to let them go by mid-January! It’s no secret, while resolutions come with the best of intentions, they are often doomed to fail. That’s why more and more of us are now choosing a word that will set our intentions for the year. Let your word become your mantra. Let it direct your daily actions and you may end the year as a better version of yourself. This “one-word” has been proven to help achieve the most permanent and positive results. And best of all, it can bring about a more satisfied, happier you!

So how do you go about choosing your own word of the year? It’s easy and fun and we’re here to help!

The first step is to reflect on the past year. So grab a notebook and let’s get started!

Think about your ups and downs over the previous twelve months. With that in mind, here are some further tips to help you find the word that will be perfect for you and your goals in the year ahead...

How to pick your word:

  1. Ask yourself: what did the past year teach me? Focus on the positive and negative. For example: What can I use more of in my life? What can I use less of?
  2. Write down 3 emotions that have prevented you from going forward in your life. Now, what positive emotions could replace them? Example: Replace envy with Gratitude, neediness with Abundance. Still not sure? Think about positive emotions that make everything better, emotions like love, forgiveness, hope, joy, etc...
  3. Who inspires you... and why?  If the people you admire display persistence, determination or optimism, it’s likely you could benefit from these traits as well.
  4. How do you want to take care of yourself this year?  Never underestimate the power of self-care. It can bring about significant change in our lives!

Now that you’ve answered these questions, you should have a better understanding of what you really want and need this year. Is there a theme or a word that keeps emerging? When you decide on the word that will help you work towards your goals, make it your mantra.

Use your special word each and every day!

Allow your word to act as a guide to direct you in critical areas of your life like career, relationships and health.

Let your special word prepare you to tackle new projects and opportunities with confidence.

When faced with everyday challenges, ask yourself how your word will affect your decisions and actions.

For example, “daring” will allow you to act with courage, while “discovery” can guide you to seek out new adventures. “Persistence” will help you to never give up.

Wishing you a terrific 2021!
